It’s the first 3-day weekend of the new school year! Of course I’m packing up and getting ready to head out on a trip down south – any guesses? Leave a comment below!
If you have a 3-day weekend, here are seven unique ideas for trips across the country you should take.
Go White Water Rafting in West Virginia
There is white water rafting all over, but West Virginia is supposed to have some of the best. Gather up some friends, rent a cabin, pack your GoPro and head out on a really fun adventure. If you go with ACE Adventure Resort, you can also try zip lining and stay on site!
Try Lobster Rolls in Portland, Maine
September is a great time to head to Maine. You can soak in the last of the warmer summer weather, drive up and down the coast to visit state and national parks, lighthouses and cute small towns. Soak up coastal summers while you still can.
Soak Up History in Charleston, South Carolina
Named one of the most charming cities in America, this southern city has so much historical significance. You can tour plantations, Fort Sumter, historical homes and churches! There are also fantastic beaches and hop on a harbor boat tour at sunset. It’s a city you can’t miss!
Hike the Badlands in North Dakota
You may be familiar with Badlands National Park in South Dakota, but did you know they extend into North Dakota? The Lakota tribe named this area “mako sica” or “land bad” for its extreme temperatures and lack of water. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is less travelled but just as incredible, and if it’s not on your bucket list, you’ll want to reconsider.
Try a Taco Food Tour in Austin, Texas
One of the main reasons Austin, Texas is on my radar is for its love for tacos. You can even take a food tour dedicated to Tacos hosted on AirBNB Experiences. Come for the tacos, stay for the great weather, clean city and countless fun activities.
Spend a Weekend at the Lake at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
As we’re getting close to the end of water sports season, it’s nice to take advantages of time we can spend at the lake. If you want epic paddle boarding, kayaking and boat rides then Coeur d’Alene is your place. You can also take a break from the lake and hop on ATVs, roller coasters, biking trails, and adventure courses!
Volunteer Across the Country
The Sierra Club is a grassroots organization fighting to protect our Earth and its resources. You can get involved all across the country! They hosts trips where you can travel and volunteer, like this trip to Mt. Ranier National Park that is focusing on restoring the trail system and helping with revegetation throughout the park.
You also get 25% off your trip if you book before 8/31 with the code ‘SALE2019’!
