It’s My Birthday!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already my birthday! 2019 has gone by so quickly. I accomplished so much at 23. I visited 10 countries (WOW), graduated from college, moved and started a new job! Needless to say, 23 was good to me.
As I look ahead to 24, there are a lot of things I want to accomplish. I found that I really enjoy setting travel goals for myself every January, so I thought I’d share with you some of my personal goals as well. Here are 24 things I want to do when I’m 24!
It’s really hard living so far away from the person who is most important to me! I’ve managed to see her three times so far in 2019 which has been wonderful, and I want to keep that momentum going. Not only visiting each other, but planning trips across the U.S. will be so much fun!
I love my blog. It’s my favorite hobby! I find time to blog even when I’m swamped and stressed because it brings me joy. I want to do a complete renovation of my site, add on more interactive features and truly turn it into something I’m proud of. That being said, I need to educate myself on how to do this!
Back in high school I studied four years of Spanish, but I didn’t take it very seriously. I actually got a ‘C’ in Spanish 5 both semesters which is totally unlike me! Now that I’m traveling more and teaching, I’ve learned the value of other languages and I want to totally improve my Spanish skills. I am going to set a goal of practicing Spanish for 10 minutes a day for the entire year, and we’ll see where I’m at next September.
Working out is not something I enjoy, and I need to have a goal I’m working towards other than just being healthy for me to truly prioritize it. I would love to participate in a color run or something fun, so I can start prepping for a 5k and it will get me in the gym more!
This is something I keep talking about but I never book! I have so much fun traveling with my friends that if I propose and idea and someone else wants to go I jump for joy. However, I want to take a trip where I can focus on me, do exactly what I want to do and just totally enjoy it. I think I’m going to start with a Stateside trip and work my way up to international.
This always looks like SO much fun! I am not a great painter even though it’s something I’ve always wanted to be able to do, and this seems like a good way to learn more about painting… while also enjoying some delicious wine!
How cool is this? I haven’t explored much in Kentucky, but for the last few years I’ve considered heading there to hop around on the Bourbon Trail. I don’t know anything about Bourbon, but this is the best way to educate myself!
I am honestly a terrible cook. I prefer eating out because I never make anything that tastes very good! I want to expand my skill set and learn more about easy meals I can make for myself on a daily basis. It will not only help me improve my cooking skills, but I’ll save some money if I don’t eat out as often.
Writing is something I love but I haven’t prioritized. At least, not fiction writing. I’ve moved more into blogging the last few years. I found it was hard to focus on such a big project when I was in college because I was taking classes, working and involved in school activities. Now that I’m out of college I’d love to start a new book and try to get it traditionally published.
How fun would that be? I’ve always thought it would be so fun but I’ve never been brave enough to go! This is the year of me, and I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and try a few things! First up, speed dating.
I’m good at drinking it, but I don’t know much about how it’s made and how to distinguish between good and bad wine. I would love to know more about the different types of wine as well.
So far I’ve traveled North America, Europe and Asia. Let’s cross off another continent this year! I have an idea of where I want to go, but leave a comment down below on a trip idea or country recommendation in South America, Africa or Australia/New Zealand!
My favorite food in China was Jian Bing, this delicious egg crepe you could buy on the street for 7 CNY (About $1 US). It was so yummy and I’ve found a video online about how to make these at home. I definitely want to perfect this so I can impress my friends and share a bit of Chinese culture with them.
I want to be more involved with my students outside of my classes, so I want to start up a club they are interested in. I have a few ideas already, and as more students come into the library I’ve been asking them what they are interested in.
This is something I really struggle with. This year, I want to focus on healing past pain as well as facing new challenges with a forgiving heart. This has never been easy for me as I have a bit of a temper and can anger quickly and move on, rather than stay and fix the problem.
This is a huge, huge goal for me this year! If I save $200 from each of my paychecks, I will be able to accomplish this. So far I’ve succeeded in saving this bit of money. I want to have an emergency fund in case anything goes wrong. I don’t like living with a $500 savings account, and I’m not in college anymore. It’s time for me to grow up and be more responsible with my money, especially when I don’t have anyone else I’m spending money on.
Yoga is so good for me. I always feel good during and after, but I don’t do yoga with consistency. Completing a 30-Day challenge will be good for my physical and mental health, but I’m also hoping it will start a more consistent yoga routine for me.
This is something I’ve always wanted to do! I just want to pamper myself a bit, and this year since I’m salaried I’ll have a little extra money to treat myself with!
I’ve always wanted to book a trip with no idea of where I’m going! I think this would be so fun, and there are a few different companies who offer this. I don’t know when I’m going yet, but I’m totally stoked.
For those of you who don’t know, this is the medical exam that tests for the breast cancer gene. Because my family has a history of breast cancer on my mom and my dad’s side, I am more at risk for it. This has always been in the back of my mind but I’m too scared to get it done. That changes this year. I’m going to face this head on and deal with the results, whatever they may be.
Super fun, right? Juice cleanses can be expensive, which is why I’ve never done one. I also think I’d be cranky during a juice cleanse…. but none the less, I think it’s a good thing to try!
This goal is to keep me accountable. It’s easy to get distracted by books coming into my school library, and also Netflix. I want to make sure I’m still reading for me despite everything going on in my life!
This is really going to help with my savings goal. I am really trying to cut back on unnecessary spending so I can focus on doing fun things, like traveling! This would be 30 days of only buying true essentials. It’s not going to be easy, but I think it’ll be really good for me.
Water is SO important! And I let it fall by the wayside… Especially during the school day I drink a lot of coffee instead of water. Making water a priority will help me feel better, clear up my skin, etc. This is an essential for this year if I want to be the best version of me!
Well, there we have it! 24 goals for year 24! I’ll check back in on my half birthday in March, and again before I turn 25 to see what I’ve accomplished!
What goals are you setting for yourself this year? Comment below!
